Kathasilpi Homen Borgohain
1 min readOne of the foremost intellectuals of Assamese literature, Homen Borgohain left for his heavenly abode. The veteran journalist, eminent litterateur and Sahitya Academy Awardee Homen Borgohain passed away on 12th May, 2021. Homen Borgohain was born on December 7, in the year 1932 at a small village in Dhakuakhana in Lakhimpur district of Assam.
Pita Putra, Saudar Puteke Nao Meli Jai, Atmanusandhan, Kitap Pahrar Ananda, Dhumuha aru Ramdhenu etc were very popular books which created a lot of new readers. His extraordinary style of expression gave a different taste to his readers. He was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award in Assamese language for his novel Pita Putra. He played a significant role in popularizing the Assamese language and literature.
At the age of 89, till the last day, he was serving as the Editor-in-Chief of Assamese daily Niyomiya Barta. “Katha-Barta”, a flagship programme of a local electronic media channel was one of the largely viewed and most popular programme in Assam since the first episode.
Homen Borgohain joined Cotton College in Guwahati for higher studies after completing matriculation from Dibrugarh Government boys’ higher secondary school.
Before joining his journalism career, Homen Borgohain also worked as an Assam Civil Service (ACS) officer for a brief period. He will be remembered for his rich contribution to Assamese literature and journalism.
